Family of Flagons

This selection of pieces were designed and curated for 'The Grit and the Glamour' winter show at Bard Scotland. The brief was to come up with a selection if unique objects which spoke of the inherent contrasts in craft, and particularly those which are true of craft in Scotland. Tradition and innovation, mind and hand, material and aesthetic. This was my response; taking something which is ultimately useful in it's purpose and making it decorative, something which would have been ubiquitous in Scotland and allowing it to demand space to adorn and be seen.

Large Bottle Vase

This very large bottle vase was made as a statement piece: something to act as a focal point within the home. For Spring Fling 2026 my aim was to make a series of pieces which both explored my current ideas on form and an enjoyment of making large pieces, with new experimentation on wood ash glazes. This glaze comes from two tree species, Oak and Birch, which were taken out of the Wood of Cree ancient oak woods as part of the management process. The resulting glaze is delightfully satin, with movement and inclusions in the finish.

Collection of Pieces

A large part of what I make is functional objects, pieces to be used and which can enhance those rituals of daily living such as our first morning coffee or a shared family meal. I like pots which feel well made and nice to hold, as well as having an energy of making and finishing.

Tall Scuptural Form

This was another piece which was made in spring 2026. I like exploring form as a canvas for decoration and glaze, but also as a vital aspect of the finished piece itself. Some shapes are incredibly satisfying, and the energy which exists for the potter lies in making objects which feel complete in both form and finish, whether that completeness is fully quantifiable or not.

Cabinetware

One side of my studio practice is the design and making of pieces for Interior Designers and customers. Alongside basins which are thrown for the Royal Scotsman Grand Suites, I make a range of cabinetware for domestic and international markets.
